How we talk about performance
Although it differs across departments, we look for and give feedback often. It should be something everyone practices because giving and receiving feedback gracefully it’s one of the most important things a person can do for their peers, managers or team members. Feedback takes the following forms:
- One on Ones: Your manager will set up time to meet with you on a weekly or bi-weekly cadence, during these meetings you will discuss what’s happening with your work, address any problems that are happening, ask for/deliver feedback, etc. These are a less formal, more casual general check in to keep everyone on the same page.
- Monthly Check-ins: You will likely also have checkins on a monthly cadence with a higher up member of the team (Senior Growth Marketing Manager, Marketing Operations Manager, Director of Account Performance, etc). This monthly check in is to address less day to day things, and give you an opportunity to address any issues you may need to, give feedback, and/or get your ideas further up the chain of command.
- 6 Month Performance Reviews: We complete a formal performance review every 6 months. We give employees plenty of instructions on the process but we ask for a self review, upwards review, and you can expect to receive a manager review from your manager. The feedback will be written down and reviewed “in person.” Compensation is also reviewed/adjusted at this stage, but you can expect more hefty raises during our performance reviews during the beginning of the year.
Feedback
We offer our employees ample opportunities to share feedback with their managers and the company. We want everyone to feel comfortable sharing feedback directly, however sometimes this can be scary so we have a few anonymous options as well! Our feedback options include:
- Frequent 1:1s with your manager to share any feedback or ideas directly
- An anonymous quarterly feedback survey geared towards understanding how the company is doing and how its employees are feeling about certain areas of the business
- Weekly anonymous Q&A/feedback links shared alongside our weekly team meetings
- A rolling Suggestion Box where employees can share ideas, feedback, and suggestions in a broader way!
- Encouragement for an open door policy where you can book time with the CEO/HR/Senior Management to share ideas, gain insights into the company, ask questions, and just generally have time to chat if you’d like it! We try our best to offer a comfortable, welcoming, and transparent working culture!
